Alvis Whitted has been appointed as the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach for Boise State, according to an announcement from head coach Spencer Danielson. Whitted arrives at Boise State after working as a senior offensive analyst at North Carolina State, where he contributed to the Wolfpack’s 8–5 season and their Gasparilla Bowl win over Memphis.
“Coach Whitted has been in this game at a high level for a long time, and we’re fired up to have him join this program,” said Danielson. “He’s an elite receivers coach. He also does a great job building relationships with players and connecting with them to help develop them on and off the field. Then you bring in his nine years as an NFL player, and he’s going to be a great addition to Boise State.”
Whitted played nine seasons as a wide receiver in the NFL before moving into coaching roles. His coaching experience includes positions with the Green Bay Packers, Utah, Colorado State, Wisconsin, UCLA, Millsaps College, and Orange High School in North Carolina.
“I am extremely thankful and blessed for the amazing opportunity to work with such an elite program that is known for winning championships,” Whitted said. “I’m ecstatic to work with Coach Danielson and his staff and I’m grateful for the opportunity to build and shape young men. I can’t wait to get to work on The Blue!”
During his recent tenure at NC State—his alma mater—Whitted helped develop players such as Spike Sowells Jr., who earned All-America honors after allowing only nine pressures across 216 pass-blocking snaps as a freshman. Running back Hollywood Smothers led the ACC in rushing yards per game (85.4), while tight end Justin Joly tied NC State’s single-season touchdown receptions record by a tight end (seven).
At Utah from 2023–24, three of Whitted’s receivers averaged more than 13 yards per reception during the 2024 season: Dorian Singer (53 catches for 702 yards), Brant Kuithe (35 receptions for 505 yards), and Money Parks (21 catches for 294 yards). At Wisconsin between 2020-22, he coached Skylar Bell, Chimere Dike, and Keontez Lewis—all of whom averaged over 14 yards per catch in 2022—and guided seniors Danny Davis, Kendric Pryor, and Dike during the previous year.
While coaching wide receivers for Green Bay in 2019, Whitted worked with Davante Adams during his third consecutive Pro Bowl season; Adams set a Packers postseason franchise record with 160 receiving yards against Seattle in the NFC Divisional Round.
From 2012–18 at Colorado State, Whitted oversaw some of the most productive seasons by Rams receivers—including Rashard Higgins, Michael Gallup, and Preston Williams—all of whom were named All-Americans before being drafted into the NFL.
Before joining collegiate programs full-time, Whitted was part of UCLA’s staff as an offensive quality control assistant in 2011 after beginning his coaching career at Orange High School.
As a player selected by Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round of the 1998 NFL Draft, Whitted spent time with Jacksonville, Atlanta Falcons, and Oakland Raiders. Over his professional career he tallied 74 receptions for 1,030 yards with six touchdowns along with returning kickoffs.
At NC State from 1993-97 he made notable contributions primarily as a kickoff returner; his total of 1,929 kickoff return yards ranks fourth all-time in school history as of early 2026.
