Bipartisan Senate resolution supports Ukraine on third anniversary of Russian invasion

U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Thom Tillis have introduced a bipartisan resolution to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The resolution underscores the U.S. Senate’s steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while condemning Russia’s actions and efforts to annex Ukrainian territory.

The resolution also praises NATO, the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, and the international community for their ongoing support of Ukraine’s defense efforts and human rights protection. It acknowledges Ukraine’s democratic advancements during wartime and stresses its right to be part of any discussions with Russia about its future.

In addition to Shaheen (D-NH) and Tillis (R-NC), the resolution has garnered co-sponsorship from several senators including Dick Durbin (D-IL), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Steve Daines (R-MT), Tim Kaine (D-VA), John Curtis (R-UT), Chris Coons (D-DE), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Susan Collins (R-ME), John Cornyn (R-TX) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).

Ranking Member Shaheen expressed pride in introducing this bipartisan resolution, highlighting her recent visit to Ukraine where she observed the determination of the Ukrainian Armed Forces amid Russian attacks. She emphasized that “this resolution reaffirms our commitment to supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty.”

Senator Tillis noted the importance of maintaining support for Ukraine as a sovereign nation, while Senator Durbin stressed rejecting Russian tyranny is essential for America’s reputation and security.

Other senators shared similar sentiments regarding their continued support for Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict. Senator Coons reaffirmed commitment alongside colleagues in standing behind Ukraine against Russian aggression, whereas Senator Bennet emphasized steadfast U.S. support as crucial for global democracy.

Senator Daines reflected on remembering those affected by the war on its third anniversary, expressing confidence in President Trump’s leadership towards resolving it swiftly.

Senators Curtis, Grassley, Collins, McConnell, Kaine, Schatz, Whitehouse each echoed condemnation of Russia’s actions while underscoring their solidarity with Ukraine in pursuit of peace.

Ranking Member Shaheen has been an active advocate for strengthening NATO-Ukraine relations within the U.S. Senate through increased military aid and sanctions against Russia.
