Boise State Beach Volleyball was ranked for the first time in program history on March 31, coming in at No. 20 in the weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Collegiate Beach Poll.
The new ranking follows Boise State’s performance at the Big 12 Preview, where the team defeated No. 20 Arizona and No. 19 South Carolina. These victories represent the fifth and sixth wins over ranked opponents for Boise State and mark the first time they have beaten two ranked teams during a single weekend.
Head coach Alex Venardos said, “This is a great step for our program. The goal for a while now has been to become a program that is always in the rankings and winning games at the NCAA National Tournament. This last weekend shows that we are continuing to climb towards that goal. I’m proud of our team.”
In their inaugural season as members of the Big 12 Conference, Boise State has faced tough competition; all but one conference member is currently ranked in the AVCA poll, including Florida State (No. 5), TCU (No. 7), Arizona State (No. 12), and South Carolina (No. 18). Ten of Boise State’s eleven losses this season have come against ranked opponents.
Looking ahead, Boise State will return home to host two consecutive weekends of tournaments: The Boise State Classic from April 3-4 and the Boise State Beach Bash from April 10-11. The Broncos currently hold a home winning streak of twenty duals dating back to 2020.
