Boise State defeated defending conference champion Nevada 6-2 in the opening game of Mountain West play on March 13.

The win marks a strong start for Boise State as they begin their conference schedule. The Broncos took an early lead and maintained control throughout the game.

Quinn Southerland began the game with a single, stole second base, advanced to third on a fly ball, and scored on a single by Marissa Gonzalez to give Boise State a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, Skylar Stroh hit a two-run double. Gonzalez then followed with a three-run home run, extending the Broncos’ advantage to 6-0.

Julianne Rose entered as relief pitcher in the bottom of the third inning with bases loaded and two outs, successfully preventing Nevada from scoring further runs in that situation. Gonzalez homered for the third time in two games and matched her career high with four runs batted in. Southerland reached base three times and scored twice during the game. Hollie Farmer also reached base three times and scored once. Loula-Rae McNamara started as pitcher, recorded eight outs, and contributed offensively by going two-for-three at bat.

Boise State will continue its series against Nevada on Saturday afternoon.
