Boise State University’s women’s gymnastics team achieved multiple season-best scores during a meet against No. 15 California in Berkeley, but ultimately lost with a final score of 197.225 to 195.925.

The Broncos started strong on bars, recording their highest score of the season for the third consecutive meet with a 49.100. Sophomore Kristina Shchennikova led the event, earning a career-high 9.925 and tying for second place. Junior Mahleea Werline matched her personal best with a 9.875, tying for fourth, while sophomore Noelle Ball equaled her season-best at 9.825.

On vault, Boise State showed consistency as four gymnasts—sophomore Bridget Kemp, senior Sydney Kho, junior Julia Krzywanski and freshman Miraya Nero—each scored a 9.775 to help the team to a total of 48.800.

During the floor rotation, all six competitors posted scores of at least 9.750. Fifth-year Blake Pascal and freshman Miraya Nero both earned a team-leading 9.800.

The Broncos finished on beam with their top score of the season at 49.150. Freshman Sydnie Whipple recorded a career-high 9.875 to finish third in the event, followed by senior Sydney Kho who added a 9.850 for her fourth-straight meet scoring at least 9.800 on beam.

Other notable performances included senior Brantley Lucas posting a career-best 9.825 on beam and freshman Isabella Delarosa matching Shchennikova’s score of 9.800 in the same event.

Shchennikova’s bars performance marked Boise State’s highest individual score in any event this season and was also the program’s highest bars score away from home since January of last year.

Blake Pascal continued her strong floor routines with her seventh performance this season scoring at least a 9.800.

The team’s overall score of 195.925 is its second-highest so far this year.

Boise State will next compete at home in ExtraMile Arena against Southern Utah on March 13 for Senior Night.
