Boise State Athletics announced on Apr. 20 that head football coach Spencer Danielson has agreed to a contract extension through the 2030 season, pending final approval by the Idaho State Board of Education.

Danielson has led Boise State to three consecutive conference championships and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024. The team holds a 24-8 record under his leadership, including a strong home performance with a 14-1 record at Albertsons Stadium, also known as “The Blue.” He took over as interim head coach near the end of the 2023 season and was named permanent head coach thereafter.

By securing the Mountain West title in 2025, Danielson became only the second coach in Football Bowl Subdivision history—alongside Lincoln Riley—to win three straight conference titles in their first three seasons. Jeramiah Dickey, Boise State Director of Athletics, said, “Spencer is elite, and we’re so happy to have him continuing to serve our football program as its head coach. He leads with his heart and cares deeply about our student-athletes as young men, all the while still raising the bar for our competitive excellence each year. He surrounds himself with the right staff and student-athletes, and he is a servant leader which shines through every day. We’re grateful for him and excited to have him as the leader of Boise State football and our community for years to come.”

Danielson expressed gratitude for his role at Boise State: “Boise is home for my family, and we’re proud to represent this football program, university, community, and state through the role I have as the leader of Boise State football,” he said. “I’m thankful for the players and staff who make this program great every day… It’s also because of Bronco Nation, who I believe are the best fans in the country. The people at Boise State show my family each and every day why we want to be here.”

Entering his tenth year on staff during the upcoming season after starting as a graduate assistant in 2017, Danielson joins notable predecessors by winning at least 20 out of his first 25 games leading Boise State. His accolades include being named Mountain West Coach of the Year (2024), AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year, Grant Teaff Coach of the Year winner; he was also an AFCA National Coach of Year finalist.

Looking ahead, Danielson will lead Boise State into its opener against Oregon on Sept. 5 before returning home against Memphis on Sept.12; further schedule details will be released later this spring.
