Boise State’s men’s basketball team saw its 2025-26 season come to a close on March 12 after an 84-74 defeat to San Jose State in the first round of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas.

The outcome marks the end of a campaign for the Broncos, who finished with a record of 20-12. The game was highlighted by Javan Buchanan’s performance, as he posted his first double-double and fourth 20-point game of the season, scoring a game-high 28 points along with 13 rebounds and two steals.

Andrew Meadow contributed significantly for Boise State, recording 17 points on six-of-12 shooting and grabbing six rebounds over 35 minutes. Drew Fielder also added to the effort with 12 points and six boards. For San Jose State, Colby Garland led with 22 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Jermaine Washington scored 18 points on six-of-11 shooting, while Adrian Myers and Sadraque NgaNga each tallied 14 points and combined for 17 rebounds. Melvin Bell Jr. chipped in with 11 points.

The Broncos started strong, taking an early lead behind Buchanan’s free throws and layup in the opening moments. Meadow hit his first three field goal attempts—including two from beyond the arc—and was the first player to reach double figures. Despite leading by five early on, Boise State saw San Jose State take its first lead midway through the period before both teams traded runs.

San Jose State held a slim advantage at halftime after Garland hit a three-pointer as time expired in the first half. In the second half, San Jose State shot exactly fifty percent from the floor while Boise State managed just thirty-five percent shooting. The Spartans eventually built their largest lead at sixteen points; although Boise State made several runs, they were unable to tie or regain control of the game.

Prior to this matchup, Boise State had won six straight games against San Jose State and seventeen of their last eighteen meetings overall. The loss ends that streak for the Broncos.
