Boise State men’s golf finished in third place at the UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate, the team’s final regular season tournament of the spring, according to an April 7 announcement. The Broncos posted a total score of 869 (+5) over three rounds.
This marks the third time this season that Boise State has placed third or higher in a tournament. Earlier in the year, the team won both the Oregon State Invitational and Lake Las Vegas Invitational.
Senior Cole Rueck led Boise State by shooting under par in all three rounds (71-69-71), finishing with a score of 211 (-5). Rueck tied for second place individually with Ryan Gay from UC Santa Barbara and was just one stroke behind individual winner Zander Grant from Denver. “Notching his seventh top-10 finish in his senior campaign, Cole Rueck shot under par in all three rounds (71-69-71) and fired a 211 (-5). He concluded the tournament in a second-place tie with Ryan Gay (UC Santa Barbara) and finished one stroke behind Zander Grant (Denver) atop the individual leaderboard,” said Boise State.
Reese Knox also finished inside the top ten, tying his personal best with a tenth-place result after carding an even-par 216. It was Knox’s second career top-ten finish and first this season. Luke Cushman, who won last year’s UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate, tied for twenty-second place this year with a score of 221 (+5), earning his seventh career top-twenty-five finish.
The Broncos ended their regular season with an overall record of 81 wins, 70 losses, and three ties. In this most recent event they posted a six-win, two-loss record against other teams. The team will next compete as host for the Battle of Idaho at Hillcrest Country Club on April 20–21; Boise State has won that duel each of its first two years.
Looking ahead to postseason play, several Broncos have shown strong form throughout the year: Rueck now has seven top-ten finishes this season and seventeen for his career.
