Boise State University’s men’s golf team will begin its spring season at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational, taking place from February 23 to 25 at Reflection Bay Golf Course in Las Vegas. The event, hosted by the University of Louisiana, includes 11 teams and will be played on a par-72 course designed by Jack Nicklaus.

The tournament format consists of 54 holes over three days, with each team fielding five players and counting the top four scores each round. Boise State’s Luke Cushman is scheduled to tee off first for the Broncos at 9:10 a.m. Mountain Time on the opening day. Live scoring for the event is available on SCOREBOARD and can be accessed HERE.

This marks the second consecutive year that Boise State will compete in this invitational. In last year’s tournament, the Broncos finished ninth overall with a score of 867 (+3). Two golfers posted under-par scores during that event: Ryan Meyer, competing as an individual, tied for sixth with a score of 210 (-6), while Gavyn Knight tied for 12th with a score of 212 (-4).

Head coach David Trainor is entering his fourth season leading the program. Under his guidance, Boise State has shown steady improvement. The team’s national ranking improved from 176th in the country during the 2023-24 season (with an overall record of 39-99-2) to 108th in the following season (2024-25), along with an improved record of 88-63-3.

During the fall portion of their schedule in 2025, Boise State achieved a cumulative record of 49-31-2 and placed in the top six at three out of five tournaments. The team shot under par four times and secured its nineteenth team tournament win in program history at the Oregon State Invitational by posting a collective score of 866 (+2).

The Broncos also recorded twelve top-25 finishes and five top-ten placements as a team during the fall. Senior golfer Cole Rueck contributed four top-ten performances, bringing his career total to fourteen—tying him for third most in program history.

Both Cole Rueck and Gavyn Knight were scheduled to represent Boise State at the Genesis Collegiate Showcase on February 16; however, inclement weather led to postponement of that event, with no confirmation yet on rescheduling.

Academically, men’s golf posted a fall semester GPA of 3.68—a single-semester team record and highest among all men’s sports at Boise State.

Boise State’s lineup for this week’s invitational includes Cole Rueck, Gavyn Knight, Reese Knox, Chase Gorder, and Luke Cushman. Ryan Shepherd and Seth Jones will compete as individuals.

Participating teams are Louisiana (host), Austin Peay, Boise State, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville State, Long Island University, Missouri–Kansas City, Northern Illinois University, San Diego, Texas State University, and Wichita State University.
