Boise State University’s men’s tennis team secured a notable win at the Boise State Spring Invitational, defeating No. 56 BYU to claim the tournament title at the Boise Racquet & Club.
The Broncos began their campaign with a match against Idaho State, taking an early lead by winning doubles matches on courts one and three. Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Taiyo Kurata and Julius Seifert clinched the point with a 6-3 victory. In singles play, Idriss Haddouch recorded his sixth win of the spring season, defeating Jack Calleri 6-3, 6-1. Julius Seifert followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, and Filip Soderqvist secured the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 result at No. 3.
Against Montana, Boise State again took the doubles point as Kurata/Seifert and Baker/Tallakson both posted wins for the second consecutive match. Lukas Velik extended the team’s lead in singles with a straight-set victory at No. 4, while Haddouch earned another point at No. 6. Stewart Aronson clinched the match’s fourth point for Boise State.
In their final matchup against BYU, Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist opened doubles play with a commanding win at No. 2 but BYU responded by taking victories on courts one and three to secure the doubles point. The Broncos quickly leveled the score in singles when Haddouch picked up his third win of the tournament at No. 6. Velik gave Boise State a lead with a straight-set win before Aronson extended it further; BYU narrowed the gap but Tallakson delivered the decisive point for Boise State in three sets.
Notable achievements from this event include Idriss Haddouch earning his tenth singles victory of the season and Stewart Aronson alongside Filip Soderqvist recording their fifteenth win as a doubles pair this year. This marked Boise State’s highest-ranked win over BYU since March 14, 2009.
The Broncos have now won seventeen consecutive matches against Idaho State and improved their all-time series record to 43-10 over them. Against Montana, they lead all-time series play by a margin of 43-1, while their eighteenth overall victory against BYU brings that series to within six matches (BYU leads 24-18).
Looking ahead, Boise State is scheduled to host two home matches on Friday, March 13: first facing No. 67 Cal Poly at 10 a.m., followed by Montana State at 5 p.m.
