Boise State men’s tennis defeated Air Force 4-2 on March 27, rallying after losing the doubles point in a match held at USAFA, Colorado.
The result is significant as it extends Boise State’s winning streak over Air Force to seven matches and gives the Broncos a 15-10 lead in their all-time series. The win also improves Boise State’s record to 18-6 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West play.
Air Force began strongly by taking the doubles point. AJ Moore and Langdon Tingleaf won against Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist, while Philip Deaton and Caden Lee secured another victory for Air Force on court three. However, Boise State responded in singles competition. Lukas Velik started the comeback with a straight-set win, but Deaton of Air Force extended his team’s lead with a victory over Aronson.
The momentum shifted when Avery Tallakson earned a three-set win on court one, followed by Carson Baker’s close victory on court three. Soderqvist then clinched the dual for Boise State with a straight-set triumph against Alec Fritzinger on court five. Notably, Soderqvist achieved his twentieth singles win of the season and his first from the No. 5 position; Tallakson recorded his sixth consecutive singles victory while Baker extended his own streak to four wins.
Looking ahead, Boise State will travel to New Mexico for its next match scheduled for Sunday, March 29 at noon Mountain Time.
The broader implications of this match include continued momentum for Boise State as they move further into conference play with key players maintaining strong individual records.
