Boise State men’s tennis completed its participation at the Arizona State Diablo Collegiate Invitational in Tempe, Arizona, securing one win out of three matches played over the weekend.
The Broncos, ranked No. 68 nationally, started the tournament with a 4-0 loss to No. 31 UC Santa Barbara. Boise State dropped the doubles point after Idriss Haddouch and Filip Soderqvist lost 6-2 on court three, and Taiyo Kurata and Julius Seifert fell 6-3 on court two. In singles play, UC Santa Barbara won three straight matches to secure the sweep.
In their second match, Boise State faced Michigan State and again lost 4-0. The Spartans took the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. Michigan State then continued their momentum in singles, winning three consecutive matches to complete another sweep against Boise State.
The Broncos ended the event on a positive note by defeating Tulane 4-2. Stewart Aronson and Soderqvist earned a 6-1 doubles victory on court two, while Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Tulane’s No. 43-ranked duo Daniel Phillips and Lance Nisbet on court one.
In singles play against Tulane, Taiyo Kurata secured a straight-set win on court six, followed by Lukas Velik’s victory on court five. Although Tulane responded with two singles wins, Aronson clinched the overall team victory for Boise State with a three-set win over Steven Rice.
Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson’s doubles win over a ranked opponent was noted as a highlight of the weekend for Boise State. Additionally, Stewart Aronson achieved his fifteenth win of the season during the event, while Lukas Velik surpassed fifteen wins as well.
Next up for Boise State is hosting duties at the Boise State Spring Invitational scheduled for March 6–7 at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.
