Boise State men’s tennis defeated Nevada 4-0 in its Mountain West home opener on March 20, securing a strong start to conference play.
The match matters as it marks Boise State’s continued success at home under head coach Luke Shields and strengthens their position within the Mountain West Conference. The Broncos improved their record to 16-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
In doubles, Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist earned a 6-3 win on court two, while Taiyo Kurata and Julius Seifert clinched the point with a 6-4 victory on court three. In singles, Carson Baker gave Boise State its first singles point with a decisive 6-0, 6-3 win. Avery Tallakson followed with a straight-set victory, and Seifert completed the sweep by coming back from one set down to win his match.
The team remains undefeated in home conference openers under Shields, now holding a perfect 3-0 record in such matches since he took over as head coach. Since joining the Mountain West Conference, Boise State has achieved a 9-5 record in home conference openers. The Broncos also extended their all-time series lead over Nevada to 38-25 and matched their highest number of sweeps in a season since 2024 with eight total this year.
Julius Seifert’s performance was notable as he secured his eleventh consecutive singles win during dual matches. This sweep marked the first time since April 8, 2023 that Boise State swept its conference home opener.
Looking ahead, Boise State is scheduled to face UC Irvine on March 22 at Appleton Tennis Center.
