Boise State men’s tennis will host four matches on March 13 and 14 at the Appleton Tennis Center, according to a March 12 announcement. The No. 61 ranked Broncos are set to face No. 72 Cal Poly and Montana State on Friday, followed by matchups against No. 38 Santa Clara and DePaul on Saturday.
The event brings together several ranked teams, with Boise State hosting both Santa Clara and Cal Poly, as well as DePaul and Montana State. These matches provide an opportunity for the Broncos to compete against strong opponents ahead of the postseason.
Cal Poly enters the weekend with an 8-4 record but is still searching for its first road win this season. Boise State leads their all-time series against Cal Poly, having won the last three meetings. Montana State arrives with a 3-7 record, all losses coming away from home; Boise State has not lost to Montana State since May 5, 1991, holding a current streak of 27 consecutive wins in the series.
DePaul holds a record of 3-9 overall and is winless on the road this year. The Blue Demons’ last victory was a sweep over Army on Feb. 28. This will be only the second meeting between Boise State and DePaul in program history; Boise State won their previous encounter in March 2002.
Santa Clara comes into the tournament with its highest national ranking since 2013 and is undefeated against Mountain West opponents this season. Boise State leads their all-time series with Santa Clara and has won their last three meetings.
Several individual milestones are also within reach for Bronco players: seven team members are approaching or nearing twenty singles wins this season, while doubles pairs are close to achieving notable marks as well. Filip Soderqvist was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week twice this season, while Carson Baker remains the only active Bronco with All-Mountain West honors from last year.
Boise State’s roster features seven returning players alongside two transfers and one freshman. In recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released March 10, Santa Clara stands at No. 38 nationally, Boise State at No. 61, and Cal Poly at No. 72.
Historically, Boise State has claimed five regular season conference titles since joining round robin play in conferences starting in 2009 and six Mountain West tournament championships since joining that league in 2012—part of eighteen total conference tournament titles across four different conferences throughout program history. The Broncos have also made twenty-one NCAA tournament appearances overall, including each of the past three years.
