Boise State University’s men’s tennis team, ranked No. 66 nationally, will host its spring invitational on March 6-7 at the Boise Swim & Racquet Club. The Broncos are scheduled to play Idaho State at 2 p.m. MT and Montana at 6 p.m. MT on the opening day. Their opponent for a final match on March 7 will be determined based on earlier results.
The invitational features six teams: Boise State, No. 56 BYU, No. 65 Gonzaga, Idaho, Idaho State, and Montana. The first day divides teams into two brackets for round-robin play, with Saturday’s matches set to determine first, third, and fifth place based on Friday’s outcomes.
Idaho State arrives with a 6-3 record but has lost its last four matches. Recent defeats include a 7-0 loss to UNLV and a close 4-3 match against No. 47 BYU. Historically, Boise State has won the last sixteen meetings against Idaho State and leads the series overall.
Montana enters with a 4-3 record this season. The Grizzlies have only beaten Boise State once in their history; the Broncos hold a dominant all-time record of 42-1 in the matchup.
Several Boise State players are nearing milestones this season. Taiyo Kurata is two singles wins away from reaching twenty victories; Filip Soderqvist needs three more for the same mark; Idriss Haddouch is three wins from ten singles victories this year. In doubles competition, Stewart Aronson and Soderqvist require one more win to reach fifteen as a pair, while Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson need three more.
Filip Soderqvist was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week on February 18—his first career honor and the team’s first weekly award this season.
Carson Baker remains the only active Bronco who earned All-Mountain West honors in both singles and doubles last season.
This year’s roster includes seven returning players—Baker, Adam Duda, Haddouch, Kurata, Julius Seifert, Michael Seversen, Lukas Velik—alongside transfers Stewart Aronson (from Clemson) and Avery Tallakson (from New Mexico), plus freshman Soderqvist.
According to Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released March 3rd: BYU is ranked No. 56; Gonzaga is No. 65; Boise State holds No. 66.
Boise State has secured five regular-season conference titles since joining leagues that conduct round-robin play in 2009—including championships in both Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and Mountain West (MW). The program has also claimed eighteen conference tournament titles across four different conferences: Big Sky (five), Big West (three), WAC (four), and MW (six).
The Broncos have made twenty-one NCAA tournament appearances throughout their history—including each of the past three years.
