Boise State defeated the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) 4-0 at Appleton Tennis Center on April 18, securing its fourth consecutive 20-win season in men’s tennis.
The victory marks an important milestone for Boise State, as the team finished the regular season with a conference win and continued its streak of strong performances under head coach Luke Shields. The Broncos improved their record to 20-8 overall and 4-3 in Mountain West play, while UNLV fell to 13-7 and also holds a conference record of 4-3.
In doubles action, Idriss Haddouch and Taiyo Kurata earned a decisive win over Roberto Hernandez and Taiyo Hirano on court three. Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson clinched the doubles point for Boise State with a tiebreak victory against Arda Karakas and Ilia Snitari on court one. In singles matches, Stewart Aronson won against Marko Maksimovic on court two, Kurata defeated Joel Gibson on court six, and Baker secured the match by overcoming Illia Maksymchuk on court three.
Notably, this result gave Boise State its tenth sweep of the season—the highest total since 2012—and marked their third ranked win this year. The team also ended UNLV’s three-match winning streak. Historically, Boise State leads the all-time series against UNLV with a record of 16-7 overall and has won nine out of ten matches played in Boise. Additionally, Baker and Tallakson achieved their twenty-first victory as a pair this season, placing them twentieth in career program history for wins as a duo.
Looking ahead, Boise State will travel to Las Vegas for the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Tennis Championship starting April 22. The final tournament bracket is scheduled to be released April 19.
