Boise State men’s tennis lost 4-3 to San Diego State at Appleton Tennis Center on April 4. The Aztecs secured the win by claiming the final singles match, ending Boise State’s five-match winning streak over San Diego State.
The outcome is significant as it marks Boise State’s first home loss of the season and narrows their all-time series lead, with San Diego State now ahead 15-13. Every singles contest went to a third set, showing how closely matched the teams were throughout the afternoon.
San Diego State started strong by taking the doubles point after wins on courts one and three. Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist managed a victory for Boise State in doubles, but it was not enough to secure the overall point. In singles play, Lukas Velik gave Boise State its first point with a comeback win on court three. Soderqvist and Aronson also recorded hard-fought victories in their respective matches, but these efforts could not overcome San Diego State’s early lead.
The Broncos’ pairing of Aronson and Soderqvist achieved their fifteenth win together this season during doubles play. Despite pushing every singles match into a deciding set, Boise State ultimately could not complete a late rally against the Aztecs.
Looking ahead, Boise State will travel to face Utah State on April 11 in Logan, Utah.
