Boise State men’s tennis extended its winning streak to six matches with victories over No. 72 Cal Poly and Montana State on March 13.
The wins are significant as they mark the Broncos’ second ranked win of the season and continue their dominance in head-to-head matchups against both teams. Boise State defeated Cal Poly 4-1, followed by a 4-0 sweep of Montana State.
Against Cal Poly, Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist secured a quick doubles victory on court two, while Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson clinched the doubles point on court one. In singles play, Soderqvist earned the first win for Boise State, with Lukas Velik and Baker also contributing victories to seal the match. The Broncos have now won their last four matches against Cal Poly, leading the all-time series 10-3.
In the matchup with Montana State, Julius Seifert and Taiyo Kurata opened doubles play with a win on court three, followed by another doubles victory from Baker and Tallakson. In singles action, Kurata benefited from an opponent retirement to extend Boise State’s lead before Seifert delivered a dominant performance with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Adam Duda completed the sweep for Boise State. The Broncos have now won their last 28 matches against Montana State and lead the all-time series 51-7.
Several individual achievements were highlighted during these matches. Baker and Tallakson picked up their 15th and 16th doubles wins of the season. Aronson and Soderqvist remain undefeated as a pair on court two with a perfect record this season. Velik has also extended his singles winning streak to ten matches.
Looking ahead, Boise State will return to Appleton Tennis Center on March 14 to host No. 38 Santa Clara at 10 a.m., followed by DePaul at 6 p.m.
