Boise State men’s tennis, ranked No. 61 nationally, will host San Diego State at the Appleton Tennis Center on April 4 at 1 p.m. Mountain Time, according to an announcement on April 3.
The matchup is significant as both teams are tied for second in the Mountain West Conference standings with a conference record of 3-1. The outcome could have implications for postseason seeding and conference rankings.
Boise State holds the highest national ranking among Mountain West programs and also ranks No. 51 in the UTR Sports collegiate team rankings. In doubles, Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson are ranked No. 81 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Broncos have recorded nine sweeps this season, their most since 2021, and one more would mark their best total since achieving eleven sweeps in 2012.
San Diego State enters the match after securing two wins over ranked opponents but recently lost to Utah State. Boise State has won its last five meetings against San Diego State and leads the all-time series between the programs with a record of fifteen wins to twelve losses, including a seven-to-three advantage in matches played in Boise.
Individually, Stewart Aronson leads Boise State with four match-clinching victories this season. Baker is one singles win away from reaching twenty victories for the year while Aronson and Filip Soderqvist need one more doubles win together to reach fifteen as a pair this season. Tallakson was named Mountain West Player of the Week on March 18—his first such honor—while Soderqvist has twice been named Freshman of the Week.
Historically, Boise State has won five regular-season conference titles since joining round-robin play in conferences starting in 2009 and six Mountain West tournament championships since joining that league in 2012. The program has appeared in twenty-one NCAA tournaments overall, including each of the past three seasons.
