Boise State’s women’s softball team secured a 5-4 victory over No. 10 Stanford at the DeMarini Invitational on Saturday, marking a significant comeback after trailing for much of the game.
The Broncos, now with an 8-7 record, did not register a hit for the first five and one-third innings and were behind 3-0. Mya Flindt broke up Stanford’s no-hit bid with a single, followed by Grace Peffley entering as a pinch runner. Quinn Southerland then singled to bring the tying run to the plate. Marissa Gonzalez delivered an RBI single to put Boise State on the scoreboard.
Skylar Stroh provided a pivotal moment with her second three-run home run in as many days, turning the deficit into a 4-3 lead for Boise State. Four consecutive walks—culminating in Jorja Crider drawing a base on balls—extended their advantage to 5-3.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Stanford (now 8-4) loaded the bases with one out against Loula-Rae McNamara, who improved her season record to 3-0. Charley Duran induced what could have been a game-ending double play, but Chloe Hughes mishandled the ball at shortstop before recovering to throw out the potential tying run at home plate. Hollie Farmer then stopped a line drive at third base and threw across for the final out.
Earlier in the day, Boise State lost 10-0 in five innings against No. 2 Texas.
“Boise State posted its second win over a Top 15 team this year (No. 14 Mississippi) and No. 10 Stanford is the highest-ranked opponent defeated in school history…win over the Cardinal was the second in school history against an ACC opponent (Boston College, 2019).”
“Boise State has won twice against a ranked opponent for the first time since 2019 when it won a three-game series against Colorado State.”
“The Broncos have won 13 games against Power Conference schools under Justin Shults.”
Skylar Stroh started her junior season with four extra-base hits and eight RBIs in her career; this year alone she has recorded six extra-base hits and driven in seventeen runs over forty-three at-bats.
Against Texas earlier Saturday, Loula-Rae McNamara achieved her first collegiate hit.
Boise State will face Stanford again on Sunday with first pitch set for noon Pacific Time.
