Boise State announced on March 10 that its softball team will begin a five-game road trip, starting with a three-game Mountain West Conference series against Nevada from March 13 to 15. The Broncos, currently holding a 12-15 record, will then travel to Sacramento State for a nonconference doubleheader on March 17.
The upcoming games mark the start of Mountain West play for Boise State. The Broncos have a historical advantage over Nevada in Reno, leading the series there 13-5. However, last season Nevada won two out of three meetings in Boise and eliminated the Broncos from the Mountain West Championship.
During their recent home-opening weekend at the Blue Collar Classic, Boise State went 3-3 and hit nine home runs across six games. Junior second baseman Skylar Stroh leads the team with 24 runs batted in and has contributed key hits this season, including a game-winning home run against Stanford. Pitcher Julianne Rose delivered a one-hit shutout with ten strikeouts against Fairleigh Dickinson University in February.
Charley Duran was named Mountain West Co-Freshman of the Week after strong performances earlier in the season, including earning two wins and maintaining an earned run average of 0.66 over four appearances. The team also set several records this year, such as scoring sixteen runs in one inning against CSUN and recording its first-ever triple play during a win over Mississippi.
Head coach Justin Shults is now in his fifth year leading Boise State and has accumulated 154 career wins with the program. He needs twenty more victories to become the school’s all-time leader in coaching wins. Since 2017, Boise State has won more games than any other Mountain West school and captured regular-season titles in both 2018 and 2023.
