Boise State lost 9-4 to Nevada on March 15 after giving up five runs in the final innings of their softball game in Reno, Nevada.
The game was tied at 4-4 before Nevada scored two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth. Boise State’s record now stands at 13 wins and 17 losses overall, with a conference record of 1-2. Nevada improved to an overall record of 18-10 and a conference record of 2-1.
Boise State started strong, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Quinn Southerland and Skylar Stroh began the game with singles, followed by a walk to Mya Flindt that loaded the bases. Southerland scored when Sophia Romero reached base on an error, and Kate Penberthy added another run with a sacrifice fly.
Nevada responded by scoring twice in both the first and third innings. Stroh contributed for Boise State with sacrifice flies in both the second and fourth innings, bringing her team-leading total to 28 runs batted in this season.
Chloe Hughes went two-for-three at bat with a double and scored twice. Romero also had two hits out of four at-bats along with one run batted in, while Southerland finished two-for-four with one run scored.
Looking ahead, Boise State is scheduled to play Sacramento State next Tuesday in a nonconference doubleheader.
