Boise State lost to UNLV 6-5 in a Mountain West softball game on April 17. Mya Flindt hit two home runs and drove in four runs for the Broncos, but the team was unable to complete a comeback.
The game was significant as it marked another close contest for Boise State, whose record now stands at 20-27 overall and 6-11 in conference play. For UNLV, the win improved their record to 25-18 overall and 12-5 in the Mountain West.
Flindt was one of three Broncos players with three hits during the game. Kate Penberthy went three-for-four and doubled home a run in the third inning, giving Boise State an early lead. However, UNLV responded with four runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth to take a commanding lead.
Flindt homered with a runner on base in both the fifth and seventh innings. After her second home run, Sophia Romero singled to put the tying run on base with one out, but Boise State could not score again before recording their final outs.
According to team notes from Boise State, Flindt recorded her first career multi-home run game while also collecting a career-high three hits. It was her third career four-RBI game and second since joining Boise State. Penberthy has been strong recently at bat, going ten-for-fifteen with two doubles, four home runs, and eight RBI over her last five games. Romero achieved her second three-hit performance of this season.
Boise State will continue its series against UNLV at 2 p.m., Saturday.
