Marissa Gonzalez led Boise State to an 8-1 victory over Portland State on Thursday at the Blue Collar Classic, collecting three extra-base hits and four runs batted in. Earlier in the day, Gonzalez also hit a home run during the Broncos’ home opener, which ended in a 5-1 loss to Cal Baptist.
In the matchup against Portland State, Gonzalez put Boise State ahead with an RBI ground out in the first inning. Quinn Southerland added to the lead with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Skylar Stroh contributed a two-run single and later scored on a double by Gonzalez. After five innings, Boise State led 5-1. The team extended its lead with three more runs in the sixth inning; Stroh drove in one run with a two-out single, and Gonzalez added two more RBIs with a triple.
During their earlier game against Cal Baptist, the Broncos gave up three leadoff walks that all resulted in runs for their opponent.
“Redshirt senior Marissa Gonzalez finished the day 4-for-7 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and five RBI,” according to team notes.
Skylar Stroh went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scored twice against Portland State. Freshman Loula-Rae McNamara pitched in both games, throwing 3 2/3 innings without allowing any runs and earning a seven-out save versus Portland State.
Boise State will face Portland State again on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
