Boise State University announced on Mar. 11 that it will host the First-Year Focus Breakfast event for instructors of Foundations of the Discipline courses from 9 a.m. to noon on April 17.
The event aims to strengthen support for first-year students by bringing together faculty who teach foundational courses in arts, math, sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Organizers say the breakfast is intended to help instructors share and develop strategies that ensure new students receive consistent support as they begin their academic journey.
According to Boise State University, the First-Year Focus initiative seeks to “elevate and connect first-year student support across Academic Affairs.” The breakfast will provide time and space for instructors to collaborate on ways to give every student a “relentless welcome” during their first year and help them build confidence and academic self-efficacy required for success.
The university said the gathering is not only a professional development opportunity but also a celebration of faculty work and recognition of the important role instructors play in student success at Boise State.
Faculty interested in attending can register through Campus Groups. Space is limited, so registrations will be accepted based on registration date, with a waiting list created if necessary. Questions about registration can be directed to Teresa Focarile with the Center for Teaching and Learning.
