The Boise State women’s golf team is set to compete in the Juli Inkster Invitational at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco on March 9-10. The tournament will feature two rounds on Monday and a final round on Tuesday.
The field includes teams such as San Jose State, Boston College, Cal Poly, California, Fresno State, Nevada, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, UC Davis, UNLV, Washington and Washington State.
In their previous outing at the Alice & John Wallace Women’s Golf Classic from February 14-16, Boise State finished eighth with a total score of 893 (+41). Leia Chung tied for 29th place with a score of 222 (+9), while Teal Matsueda recorded a first-round score of 69 (-2). Among five Mountain West teams participating in that event, Boise State had the highest finish.
Leia Chung has returned to competition after missing the 2024-25 season due to injury. She won the Golfweek Fall Challenge and set both program and tournament records for a 54-hole score (199, -14). Her nine-stroke victory matched the largest margin of victory in program history. “Chung also captured the individual title at the New Mexico Golf Iconic Classic, firing a 207 (-9) and leading the Broncos to the team crown (851, -12).” Her three career individual titles put her one short of Samantha Martin’s school record.
Head coach Kailin Downs is now in her fifth season with Boise State. Under her leadership through five fall tournaments this year, the team’s scoring average stands at 292.67—the lowest ever for the program. In 2024 she led them to their second-lowest scoring average (296.74) and set school records for lowest scores over both 36 holes (566, -10) and 54 holes (846, -18). Downs recently signed a two-year contract extension through the end of the 2028 season.
Teal Matsueda earned All-Mountain West Second Team honors for this season—the first Bronco since 2018-19 to receive all-conference recognition.
Several current players are featured prominently in Boise State’s record book. Chung holds multiple top marks including four out of six best-ever individual scores over two rounds and six out of nine best-ever scores over three rounds. Jillian Hui is tied for fourth-best individual two-round score; Matsueda is tied for sixth; Brooke Patterson also appears among top performances.
The lineup for this week’s invitational consists of Leia Chung, Teal Matsueda, Brooke Patterson, Macee Greenwood and Callia Ward.
