Boise State announced on March 14 that its women’s golf team will participate in the Betsy Rawls Invitational, taking place March 16-17 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin. The tournament will feature two rounds on Monday and a final round on Tuesday, with teams such as Texas, Arkansas, BYU, LSU, Oklahoma, and others joining Boise State in the field.
The event is significant for Boise State as it marks their second consecutive two-day tournament. The team aims to build on recent performances and continue setting program records.
In their last outing at the Juli Inkster Invitational, Teal Matsueda achieved a career-best fifth-place finish with a score of 218 (+2), helping lead Boise State to an eighth-place team result. Leia Chung contributed a 16th-place finish and now has 17 career top-25 finishes, tying her for eighth-most in program history. Matsueda has recorded four career top-10 finishes, including two this season.
Chung returned to competition after missing the previous season due to injury and won the Golfweek Fall Challenge with a record-setting performance. She posted a 54-hole score of 199 (-14), finishing nine strokes ahead of the field and tying the largest margin of victory in program history. Chung also secured an individual title at the New Mexico Golf Iconic Classic with a score of 207 (-9), leading Boise State to its second-best team score ever.
Head coach Kailin Downs is now in her fifth season guiding the Broncos. Under her leadership, the team’s scoring average through five fall tournaments stands at 292.67—the lowest in school history. Downs recently signed a contract extension through the 2028 season.
Several players are making their mark in Boise State’s record books. Chung holds multiple records for low scores over both 36 and 54 holes and boasts three individual titles—one shy of tying Samantha Martin’s school record. Matsueda earned All-Mountain West Second Team honors for the current season, becoming Boise State’s first all-conference honoree since 2018-19.
The lineup for this week’s tournament includes Matsueda, Chung, Brooke Patterson, Jillian Hui, and Callia Ward.
