The Boise State women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to 11 matches with a 4-1 victory over No. 31 San Diego State on March 22 at the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho.
This win is significant as it marks the Broncos’ 13th consecutive triumph against Mountain West opponents and their best conference start since the 2017-18 season. The team’s performance demonstrates continued dominance within the conference and highlights individual achievements by several players.
Although Boise State lost the doubles point, Allison Isaacs quickly tied the match with a straight-set win on court four. Zdena Safarova then gave Boise State the lead by defeating Jo-Yee Chan for her seventh consecutive singles victory at the No. 1 position, which also marked her 30th career singles win—the fourth-most in program history. Paula Schaefer and Tereza Polakova added wins on courts five and two, respectively, with Polakova clinching the overall match after holding off a comeback attempt from her opponent.
Head coach Beck Roghaar said, “What a day for us. To bounce back after losing doubles was really big. I was so proud of how our team showed up right away in singles. It was great to see us perform the way we did on all six courts. We didn’t just slide by in our matches, we showed up on every court. That’s what this team is about and that’s why I love this team.”
The Broncos have now won their last seven singles matches in straight sets and recorded their second consecutive win over San Diego State, bringing their all-time record against them to five victories.
Looking ahead, Boise State will continue its home stand at Appleton Tennis Center with upcoming matches against Nevada on March 27 and UNLV on March 29.
