Boise State women’s tennis team secured its seventh consecutive win and fourth straight sweep with a 7-0 victory over Utah Tech in Saint George, Utah, on Saturday. The Broncos improved their season record to 8-2.

The top doubles pair for Boise State, Zdena Safarova and Tereza Polakova, earned their fifth win at the No. 1 position by defeating Mariana Zurita Berdecio and Ana Gutierrez Sampere 6-2. The doubles point was clinched on court three when Carla Grignac and Masa Viriant teamed up for the first time this season to win 6-3.

In singles play, Polakova started with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 victory on court three. Paula Schaefer followed with a straight-set win at the No. 5 spot, finishing 6-0, 6-4. With the Broncos leading 3-0, Safarova sealed the team victory by beating Zurita Berdecio 6-1, 6-4. Additional wins from Grignac at No. 6, Viriant at No. 3, and Allison Isaacs at No. 4 completed the sweep.

Carla Grignac and Masa Viriant recorded their first win as a doubles team during this match. Both also now hold an individual singles record of 8-1 this season, which is currently the best on the team.

Boise State has now won seven dual matches in a row and has swept Utah Tech in back-to-back seasons.

Head coach Beck Roghaar commented on the team’s performance: “We got off to a really good start in doubles. It was really nice to see our team come out and do what we needed to do. We got pushed in some matches and it was really cool to see our players double down and know they can get the job done when their name is called.”

Roghaar also reflected on the team’s progress through nonconference play: “I’m really happy to put a stamp on the nonconference portion of the schedule. We’ve learned so much over the course of these first 10 matches. I’m really pleased with the growth that we’ve had and we’re really excited to get into the conference portion of our schedule.”

Next week, Boise State will begin its final Mountain West regular-season slate by traveling to Fort Collins, Colorado, to face Colorado State on March 13 at 1 p.m. MT.
