Colorado State defeated Boise State 7-6 after Kyra Smith hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, according to a March 29 game summary. The match took place in Fort Collins, Colorado.
The outcome is significant as it marks a comeback win for Colorado State and leaves Boise State with an overall record of 18-20 and a conference record of 4-5 in the Mountain West. Colorado State now stands at an even 17-17 overall and holds a conference record of 5-4.
Boise State started strong, taking an early lead when Marissa Gonzalez delivered an RBI-triple in the first inning. After Colorado State responded to go ahead briefly, Chloe Hughes doubled home two runs for Boise State and later scored on Skylar Stroh’s single, helping her team regain the lead at 4-2 by the second inning.
The Broncos extended their advantage in the fourth inning as Quinn Southerland hit an RBI-double and Stroh added another run with a ground out, making it 6-2. However, Colorado State mounted a rally that culminated with Smith’s decisive home run in their final at-bat.
Gonzalez finished the game going two-for-four at bat with one RBI-triple while Stroh collected two runs batted in. The Broncos will next host New Mexico for a three-game series scheduled from April 2 to April 4.
