Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on March 19, 2026, addressing local events and legislative actions.
On March 19, Simpson expressed condolences regarding the death of Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam. He wrote, “I am saddened to learn about the unexpected passing of Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam. Rick was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about Idahoans and our great state. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this unimaginable time.”
Later that day, Simpson commented on legislation related to law enforcement animals. He stated, “Harming a law enforcement working animal is appalling and evil. As a dog lover and someone who adamantly supports the working dogs who have served on the front lines, voting in favor of this bill was one of the easiest decisions of my congressional career.”
In another post on March 19, Simpson highlighted the return of VandalHoops to competition after more than three decades. He wrote, “.@VandalHoops IS BACK FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1990. Tonight is the night! Let’s go Vandals – Idaho is cheering you on!!”
Simpson has represented Idaho’s 2nd District in Congress since 1999 after succeeding Mike Crapo and previously served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently residing in Idaho Falls at age 72, Simpson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
