Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of updates on his official social media account regarding legislative developments and local industry initiatives.
On October 16, 2025, Simpson commented on congressional efforts to keep the federal government funded: “It’s been almost ONE MONTH since the House did its job and passed a clean CR to keep the government open. It’s nonpartisan! As an appropriator, I can honestly say this is the cleanest CR I have ever seen. No policy riders – just keeping the government open while we continue to”.
The following day, on October 17, 2025, Simpson highlighted Southeast Idaho’s role in national phosphate mining and agriculture: “Southeast Idaho plays a vital role in domestic phosphate mining and phosphorus manufacturing. Advancing the Caldwell Canyon Mine will support approximately 800 Idaho jobs while supplying critical phosphate for the agricultural industry, benefiting farmers in Idaho and across the”.
On October 19, 2025, he expressed appreciation for recent federal actions that benefit Idaho: “Great news for Idaho! Thank you, @SecretaryBurgum and @POTUS!”
Simpson has represented Idaho’s 2nd district since 1999 after succeeding Mike Crapo. He previously served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently residing in Idaho Falls at age 72, Simpson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
