Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform to highlight key provisions in the FY26 Interior and Environment appropriations bill. In a series of posts on January 7 and 8, 2026, Simpson discussed increased funding for law enforcement, support for tribal responsibilities, and renewed efforts to combat the opioid crisis.
On January 7, Simpson encouraged Americans to explore national parks and referenced law enforcement funding: “It’s a NEW YEAR! I encourage all Americans to take the opportunity this year to visit our national treasures. The FY26 Interior and Environment @HouseAppropsGOP bill increases funding for law enforcement, providing them with the support they deserve to protect the public.”
Later that day, he emphasized bipartisan support for tribal initiatives: “.@HouseAppropsGOP remains committed to upholding our federal responsibilities to our nation’s Tribes. I was proud to fight for this bipartisan priority in the FY26 Interior & Environment appropriations bill.”
On January 8, Simpson addressed ongoing challenges related to illegal narcotics: “The FY26 Interior & Environment @HouseAppropsGOP bill expands upon the efforts created under the first Trump Admin through the @Interior Opioid Reduction Task Force to disrupt the illegal narcotics trade and address the opioid crisis – this was eliminated under Biden.”
Simpson has served as Idaho’s 2nd district representative since 1999 after replacing Mike Crapo. He previously held office in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 until his election to Congress. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently residing in Idaho Falls, Simpson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
