Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, announced on December 10, 2025, that the House passed a Secure Rural Schools (SRS) solution intended to benefit Idaho counties.

In a post made at 00:10 UTC on December 10, Simpson stated, “Great news for Idaho – the House just passed a Secure Rural Schools solution that will benefit Idaho Counties. I look forward to seeing this lifeline benefit local communities throughout Idaho for schools and infrastructure projects. As a longtime supporter of the SRS program,”.

Later that day, at 20:53 UTC, Simpson posted about his role during discussions over the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), writing “Presiding on the House floor over the NDAA debate. The NDAA is a must-pass bill that promotes peace through strength policies, supports our men and women in uniform, and strengthens our national defense. Let’s get it done!”

At 22:58 UTC on December 10, he added support for the measure by stating “I was a proud YES. Idaho is home to Gowen Field and Mountain Home Air Force Base, hosting thousands of servicemembers. Supporting our troops and investing in our national defense remain among my top priorities in Congress. The NDAA does just that while building on the strong”.

Simpson has served as representative for Idaho’s 2nd District since replacing Mike Crapo in 1999; before joining Congress he was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently residing in Idaho Falls at age 72, Simpson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
