Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has posted a series of tweets highlighting recent initiatives and achievements related to public lands management and local sports.
On December 5, 2025, Simpson expressed support for a federal plan aimed at reducing wildfire risks and lowering costs for Americans during the holiday season. He wrote: “In addition to preventing wildfires and protecting access to public lands, the Trump administration’s Christmas tree and firewood savings plan will lower costs for Americans while celebrating the most wonderful time of the year.

The following day, on December 6, 2025, Simpson commented on a partnership between Idaho and federal agencies to manage forestlands. He stated: “I’m excited to see the historic Shared Stewardship between the State of Idaho and the Forest Service. This will address wildfire risk, support rural communities, and improve forestlands in our great state. https://t.co/1NsYggGBDp”.

Simpson has represented Idaho’s 2nd district since 1999 after succeeding Mike Crapo in Congress. Before his tenure in Washington D.C., he served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently residing in Idaho Falls at age 72, Simpson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
