Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950, Simpson has a long-standing career in public service, including serving in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998 before joining Congress.
On March 3, 2025, Congressman Simpson expressed his condolences following the passing of Lincoln Diaz-Balart. He tweeted: “Kathy and I extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Lincoln Diaz-Balart. Lincoln was a fierce defender of freedom around the world and loved this great nation. It was an honor to serve alongside him in the House, and I am proud to have called him a friend.”
The following day, on March 4, he looked forward to hearing from President Trump that evening. In his tweet, he mentioned: “Looking forward to hearing from President Trump tonight! Later on March 4, Congressman Simpson also expressed anticipation for attending President Trump’s joint address to Congress with another tweet: “Looking forward to attending President Trump’s joint address to Congress!”
