Boise State forward Drew Fielder was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, according to a March 9 announcement from the conference.
Fielder’s recognition marks his second time earning the award this season, making him the sixth Boise State player—and third forward—to receive multiple Player of the Week honors in a single season. This achievement places him alongside former Broncos Derrick Marks, James Webb III, Chandler Hutchison, Derrick Alston, and Tyson Degenhart.
During games played from March 2-8, Fielder led all players in scoring for both contests as Boise State posted a 2-0 record. He averaged 28 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 68 percent from the field, including over 44 percent from three-point range and nearly 82 percent at the free throw line. Notably, he is currently the only player in the country to have totaled at least 50 points and 15 rebounds on at least 68 percent shooting during that span.
Fielder set career highs with 33 points and made free throws against San Diego State on March 3 and recorded his tenth game with at least 20 points at Colorado State on March 7. In his first season starting for Boise State, he has started in all but two games and is averaging nearly 15 points per game along with strong rebounding and assist numbers. He leads qualified Mountain West players in field goal percentage and is unique in combining averages of at least 14 points, five rebounds, one assist per game while shooting above 55 percent.
Looking ahead, Boise State will travel to Las Vegas for the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Basketball Championship. The Broncos are scheduled to play San Jose State in their opening round matchup on Wednesday evening.
