Filip Soderqvist has been recognized as the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference on Wednesday.
Soderqvist achieved this recognition after remaining undefeated in both singles and doubles matches during Boise State’s recent competitions. The Broncos secured a 6-1 win over Wichita State and a 5-2 victory against Denver.
In singles play, Soderqvist came from behind to defeat Zaid Mashni of Wichita State, who is ranked No. 101 nationally. He won with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Soderqvist then overcame Samuel Rovai of Denver in another three-set match, finishing with a scoreline of 5-7, 7-6 (0), 6-3. Playing at the No. 2 position for all matches, these wins brought his season singles total to fifteen.
For doubles competition, Soderqvist partnered with Stewart Aronson. Together they posted a 6-4 win over Alejandro Jacome and Amir Milushev from Wichita State and followed up with a 6-2 victory against Aaron Beduhn and Connor Robb-Wilcox from Denver.
This award is the first weekly honor for Soderqvist in his collegiate career and also marks Boise State’s first such recognition this season.
