Today, the United States House of Representatives approved the Fiscal Year 2026 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill. Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson, who chairs the House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, backed this legislative step. The bill aims to fully fund health care programs and benefits for veterans while also supporting military families and strengthening national defense.
“Upholding America’s promise and obligations to our veterans means ensuring they receive the care and support they so greatly deserve,” said Rep. Simpson. “While we can never fully repay those who have honorably served, this legislation honors our commitment to our nation’s heroes and ensures they receive the benefits they’ve earned. I will always do everything I can to support our troops and veterans, and I am pleased to see this legislation pass the House.”
Key aspects of the bill include full funding for veterans’ health care programs and benefits as well as VA programs. It also includes measures to protect Second Amendment rights for veterans by preventing the VA from sending information to the FBI without a judge’s consent. Additionally, it aligns with President Trump’s executive orders by withholding funds for diversity, equity, inclusion initiatives, gender-affirming care, and maintaining Hyde-like language at the VA. The bill prohibits processing medical care claims for illegal aliens by the VA.
The measure was passed in a vote of 218-206 in favor of advancing it further in Congress. It now awaits consideration by the Senate.
