U.S. Senator Jim Risch, representing Idaho, highlighted recent legislative actions and tax policy changes in a series of posts on April 15 and 16, 2026.
On April 15, Risch posted about the impact of new tax policies for Idaho residents: “This Tax Day, Idahoans will see real savings thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts!
No tax on tips.
No tax on overtime.
More money back in the pockets of families, small businesses, and seniors on Social Security.” He followed up later that day with another statement: “Last year my @SenateGOP colleagues and I made history by passing the largest tax cut in American history. Tax Day might not be America’s favorite day, but this year will be a bit easier thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts!”
On April 16, Risch addressed gun rights legislation: “My No REGISTRY Rights Act would destroy the ATF’s illegal registry of nearly 1 billion records of American gun owners. The right to bear arms is integral to Idahoan’s way of life, and we must pass this legislation to uphold our Second Amendment.”
Risch has demonstrated a commitment to pragmatic governance and conservative principles throughout his career, according to his official website. He serves on several Senate committees including Foreign Relations, Energy and Natural Resources, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Intelligence, and Ethics. Over his career he has held significant roles such as majority leader and president pro tempore in the Idaho State Senate as well as serving as Idaho lieutenant governor and governor.
Risch earned both a bachelor’s degree in forestry and a Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho. He has been married to his wife Vicki for more than 50 years and they have raised three sons.
