Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on September 17 and 18, 2025, addressing public safety legislation, changes in late-night television hosts, and the anniversary of the U.S. Air Force.
On September 17, Simpson wrote: “Addressing crime and ensuring the safety of the public should not be a partisan issue – every American should feel safe when visiting our nation’s capital. I was proud to support these critical bills on the House floor this week, which will continue to restore safety and law https://t.co/OlSPmjCJd7”. The congressman highlighted his support for recent House bills focused on improving security measures.
Later that day, Simpson commented on changes in late-night television programming with another post: “Now that they’ve gotten rid of Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, we can finally get some real comedians. Good riddance!” This tweet referred to recent developments involving prominent TV personalities.
On September 18, Simpson marked a military milestone: “Happy 78th Birthday, @USAirForce! I’m honored to represent Mountain Home AFB in Idaho’s Second District. We are grateful to the dedicated airmen in Idaho and across America for their service to this great nation! https://t.co/HU1u7tVlOW”. He expressed gratitude for U.S. Air Force personnel stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base within his district.
Simpson has served as a member of Congress since 1999 after replacing Mike Crapo. Before his tenure in Washington D.C., he was part of the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently residing in Idaho Falls at age 72, Simpson holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University (graduated in 1972).
