Mike Simpson celebrates Idaho’s statehood anniversary and legislative success

Congressman Mike Simpson, who has been serving Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress since 1999, shared several updates on social media regarding significant events and legislative developments.

On July 3, 2025, Congressman Simpson marked a historical milestone for Idaho with a tweet celebrating its statehood anniversary. He stated, “Today is a big day for Idaho – it became the 43rd state 135 years ago! From the Sawtooth Mountains to Redfish Lake, and from our agricultural communities to the small towns that are the heart of Idaho, our state is truly special. I’m proud to call Idaho home.”

Later that day, at approximately 18:11 UTC, Simpson tweeted about his upcoming participation in a legislative vote. He announced his intention to support a major piece of legislation by stating, “On my way to the House floor to go vote YES on the ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL!”

Shortly thereafter, at around 18:32 UTC, Congressman Simpson reported the successful passage of this legislation. In his tweet he conveyed reassurance and optimism by writing, “The ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL IS PASSED. Idahoans and Americans nationwide can take comfort in knowing that this legislation will create a safer and stronger America.”

Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently residing in Idaho Falls, Mike Simpson has dedicated much of his career to public service. Before joining Congress in 1999 as Mike Crapo’s successor, he served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 until 1998. A graduate of Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree obtained in 1972, Simpson continues to play an active role in shaping legislative policy.
