Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has posted a series of tweets addressing the ongoing government shutdown and reflecting on the legacy of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
On November 3, 2025, Simpson expressed appreciation for federal employees affected by the shutdown: “I am grateful for the dedicated TSA & FAA personnel, who are currently working WITHOUT pay, because Senate Democrats have blocked a funding proposal that would open the government and pay these employees 14x. This is the SCHUMER SHUTDOWN.”
The following day, he commented on political responsibility regarding the shutdown: “Democrats are blocking attempts to reopen the government. Democrats are holding families, workers, and food assistance hostage. Democrats don’t care that Americans are suffering. DEMOCRATS CAUSED THIS SHUTDOWN.” (November 4, 2025).
Also on November 4, Simpson shared condolences after the passing of former Vice President Dick Cheney: “Former Vice President Dick Cheney was a true public servant who dedicated his life to serving the people of Wyoming, the American people, and our great nation. May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.”
Simpson has represented Idaho’s 2nd District since 1999 after succeeding Mike Crapo and previously served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently residing in Idaho Falls, Simpson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
