Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, shared updates on recent legislative and community activities through several posts on his official X account in August 2025.

On August 14, Simpson highlighted a meeting with employees of United Electric Cooperative to discuss legislative initiatives: “Had the opportunity to meet with United Electric employees and discuss some of the highlights of the One Big Beautiful Bill! @unitedelectricc provides safe, reliable power in Idaho communities. The OBBB will unlock America’s full energy potential and bring down costs for” (August 14, 2025).

Later that day, Simpson addressed Social Security policy changes: “The Trump administration and congressional Republicans are working to protect Social Security and provide real relief for America’s seniors. Thanks to @POTUS’s OBBB, the majority of seniors will pay NO tax on Social Security. That’s a promise made, promise kept! “ (August 14, 2025).

On August 15, Simpson discussed his support for military families following a visit to Mountain Home Air Force Base: “Supporting our military families is one of my top priorities in Congress. I was honored to visit Mountain Home Air Force Base and meet with our brave servicemembers and Stephensen Elementary School students. I recently advanced funding to build a new elementary school at the” (August 15, 2025).

Simpson has represented Idaho’s 2nd District since replacing Mike Crapo in Congress in 1999. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 until 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950, Simpson resides in Idaho Falls and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University.
