Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets this week highlighting legislative developments and expressing condolences for a colleague.
On January 5, 2026, Simpson wrote about upcoming appropriations bills being considered by the House: “Exciting week for @HouseAppropsGOP as the House will consider three appropriations bills. The following day, January 6, Simpson addressed the passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa: “I am devastated to learn of the sudden passing of my friend and colleague, Doug LaMalfa. I will always treasure his steadfast leadership and dedication to rural communities and schools, and fondly remember his recent trip to Boise. He will be deeply missed. My sincerest”.

Simpson has represented Idaho’s 2nd District in Congress since 1999 after succeeding Mike Crapo. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950, Simpson currently resides in Idaho Falls and holds a BS degree from Utah State University.
