Congressman Mike Simpson, who represents Idaho’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used his social media platform to comment on tax policy, government funding votes, and activities within his district.
On February 17, 2026, Simpson wrote that “Tax refunds are UP thanks to Republicans. Under the leadership of @POTUS, @HouseGOP passed the largest tax cut in U.S. history through the Working Families Tax Cuts. Thanks to this landmark legislation, hardworking Idahoans will keep more of their hard-earned money and save more”.
The following day, Simpson addressed recent remarks by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries regarding a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding vote. On February 18, he posted: “You would never know after listening to Hakeem Jeffries comments that it was DEMOCRATS who voted for a DHS shutdown. Have you seen the vote record? Republicans voted to keep FEMA, TSA, and the Coast Guard operational. Give me a break, Hakeem. You voted to shut it down.”
Later on February 18, Simpson shared an update from his travels within Idaho’s Second District: “I’m on the road in Idaho’s Second District and listening to @PressSec’s briefing live. @karolineleavitt is great! “
Simpson has served as a member of Congress since 1999 after replacing Mike Crapo and previously held office in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently residing in Idaho Falls at age 72, Simpson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
