Congressman Mike Simpson, who has represented Idaho’s 2nd District in the U.S. Congress since 1999, uses social media to share personal messages during significant occasions and outline his legislative efforts. Simpson, who took office after Mike Crapo, has a history in public service beginning with his tenure in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998.
On April 20, 2025, Simpson and his wife, Kathy, extended their well wishes for a “happy and peaceful Easter Sunday” to the public.
The following day, on April 21, Simpson shared a message of sorrow and support, stating that “Kathy and I join the world in mourning the loss of Pope Francis. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Catholics around the world this morning. May he rest in peace.” This reflects the global grief felt by many at the passing of the Catholic leader.
Later the same day, Simpson, who serves as the Chairman of the Interior & Environment Subcommittee with the House Appropriations Committee, expressed his commitment to preserving access to public lands in Idaho. He announced his support for new legislation, stating, “As a lifelong Idahoan and Chairman of the Interior & Environment Subcommittee on @HouseAppropsGOP, I’ve worked to protect Idahoans’ way of life by preserving access to our public lands. Proud to cosponsor @RepRyanZinke’s Public Lands in Public Hands Act, which ensures future”.
Simpson, aged 72 and born in Burley, Idaho, graduated with a BS from Utah State University in 1972. He currently resides in Idaho Falls, where he continues to be an active representative of his state.
