Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has announced his support for the Energy Choice Act, H.R. 3699, a legislative measure that aims to prevent states or local governments from prohibiting energy services based on their type or source. This bill is spearheaded by Representative Nick Langworthy of New York.

“Energy freedom is key to strengthening our domestic energy supply and ensuring Americans have access to reliable sources that best meet their needs,” Rep. Simpson stated. He emphasized that the act would help reduce costs over time while safeguarding consumer options against certain political agendas aiming to limit energy types. He added, “As a longtime member and former Chairman of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, I’ve been proud to support policies related to energy production.”

Steve Martinez, President of Tradewinds General Contracting, expressed his approval for the legislation. “As an Idaho home builder working to keep housing affordable for our citizens, I commend Rep. Mike Simpson for sponsoring the Energy Choice Act,” he said. Martinez highlighted concerns that bans on natural gas in new homes could raise housing costs unnecessarily and limit consumer choices regarding heating solutions.

In addition to this House bill, Senator Jim Justice from West Virginia has put forward similar legislation in the Senate.

The complete text of the proposed legislation can be accessed online.
