Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has announced his support as a cosponsor of H.R. 5483, known as the Chloe Cole Act. The bill seeks to formalize President Trump’s executive actions intended to prevent what supporters describe as “chemical and surgical mutilation” of children in the context of gender-affirming medical care. The legislation aligns with Executive Order 14187, which is titled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.” The bill is sponsored in the House by Rep. Bob Onder (R-MO).

Simpson stated, “The Left’s dangerous gender ideology has permanently harmed vulnerable children across America. The mutilation and sterilization have left innocent children with irreversible damage to their bodies. Thousands of children have been misled by this insanity, and it must end. Thanks to President Trump’s executive action, some of the nation’s biggest ‘gender-affirming care’ centers are closing. The fight does not stop here – that’s why Congress must act quickly to enact legislation to protect our children from these harmful procedures.”

If enacted, the Victims of Chemical or Surgical Mutilation Act would ban healthcare providers from performing or assisting in such procedures on minors. It also provides legal recourse for affected children and their parents.

In the Senate, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) sponsors companion legislation.

Mike Simpson currently serves Idaho’s 2nd congressional district and has done so since 1999 after previously serving in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950, Simpson lives in Idaho Falls and graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1972.
