Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson announced on May 7 that he has cosponsored a resolution to designate May 3 to May 9, 2026, as National Small Business Week. The resolution is sponsored by Representative Brad Finstad of Minnesota.
The recognition aims to highlight the importance of small businesses in Idaho and across the country. In his statement, Simpson said, “Idaho’s small businesses are the backbone of our state and economy.” He continued, “In my district alone, there are 24,142 small businesses with employees. I will always advocate for policies that invest in our small businesses and deliver tax certainty, like the Working Families Tax Cuts. As National Small Business Week comes to an end, I join Idahoans in expressing my gratitude to the small business owners and employees throughout our great state.”
Simpson is currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Idaho’s 2nd district after replacing previous member Mike Crapo in 1999, according to the U.S. House of Representatives. He has served continuously since then and previously was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 until 1998.
Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and now residing in Idaho Falls at age 72, Simpson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972 according to the U.S. House of Representatives.
